Chapter Five

It was a lot to digest. But from closer scrutiny ofthe evidence, Londonwas comingaround to Pascal's theory that the first body was different than the other three. Pascal stood in London's evidence room at the whiteboard. He was making a chart which outlined everything they knew about the case with all the possible connections. Marisa was sitting beside London, reading over the conclusions the detectives had made concerningthe evidence.

Salena and Lilith were seated on the other side of the table, coffee travel mugs in hand, discussing the angle the bodylanded onimpact.

London tried to concentrate on the diagrambut his gaze often strayed to Pascal when the vampire wasn't looking in his direction. If only the guy didn't look like a damn god, dressed in his black leather pants today and a tightly fitted navy T-shirt. His long hair was tied back loosely from his face and he looked so serious, highly focused on the task at hand. He was a good cop and a good leader and damn it, yes, London missed him. He missed touching him and kissing him. He missed his cock, and the fact that he'd never again get to touch it or feel it inside him, made him ache. Sitting in this room didn't help. He could picture them making love here, he on his knees between Pascal's thighs, Pascal lifting him onto the table and fucking him like no other could.

Pascal had wanted to talk about the past, he'd been wrong to deny him. How could he have been such an ass? Yet, damn it, he'd been burned before. Maybe he shouldn't be with a vampire. Maybe this was for the best. Focus. Focus, London.

"This really presents us with more questions thananswers,"Londonfinallymade himselfcomment.

"Yes." Pascal looked at him. "But at least now we're askingthe right questions."

Marisa nodded. "Pascalis right."

Londonnodded in agreement. "What about that stake, Marisa? Anythingwe canuse?"

"Assailant must have had on gloves. No fingerprints. Nothing but Pascal's blood and skin. Poor dear,"she said, givinghima sympathetic look.

London set his jaw. God. He'd almost lost him. He might have lost his mind if Pascal hadn't opened his eyes. What was he saying? Pascal wasn't his anymore. He shouldn't care.

"So, let's go over it again." London stood and started to pace. "We got a bunch of separatists, vampire and human, who basically admit to sacrificing some poor sucker to the cause. They wanted to stir up the humans so that they would agree that all vampires are beasts and should live separately. Am I right so far?"

Pascalshrugged. "More or less."

"Okay, so we got more victims that aren't being claimed by this group. It's probable that the guy who attacked Pascal is a copycat killer, not a vampire but a humanwho…"He stopped, looked at Pascal. "Are you thinkingwhat I'mthinking?"

Pascal nodded. "Ahuman who wants to be, or thinks he is, a vampire. Salena, start checking all the records for any crazies who've been released from the mentalinstitution lately… we're looking for humans with vampire fetishes."

"Lilith, get a team together," London said, "and search the gay bars.
